VIVI HANIOTI "THE PELICAN SPIRIT" | 21. May – 31. May |

Mykonos born photographer Vivi Hanioti, with her first public exhibition, highlights the tourist symbol of Mykonos, Petros the pelican.

Many decades have passed since Petros the Pelican fell seawards from his allotted place in the annual migration of the flock. He has become very much a part of the scene in Mykonos, having lived among us since 1958. Some of the elderly locals remember him as a weak little bird in the arms of the fisherman who saved and nursed him back to health. It was he who taught Petros to love the fishermen who fed him, and in turn the tourists who fed the fishermen... Over the years he learned to enjoy an evening stroll on the shore along with Irene, Nicholas, Omega, Demo, and Petro the younger, and to relish the annual summer winds, even if it meant ruffling their well-groomed coiffeur.
